Job Description :

AK Steel is looking for a Section Manager Steelmaking Maintenance at our Butler, PA operation.  The Section Manager Maintenance will be responsible for both the continual improvement and sustainment of those improvements for every facet of the Steelmaking operation.  The Section Manager also oversees the salaried Shift Managers, Engineers, and Maintenance Planners in the Steelmaking Maintenance department.

Primary Responsibilities:

Plan and coordinate all maintenance activities in a large steelmaking facility including analyzing equipment needs, maintenance reliability issues, developing preventative/predictive maintenance programs, and planning/managing scheduled and unscheduled maintenance downtime for equipment including a 175-ton Electric Arc Furnace, cranes, etc. Manage salaried Supervisors, Engineers, Planners, and hourly union employees. Manage department budget. Meet established department goals in safety, environmental, quality, and cost management. Perform other duties as needed.


Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline is preferred but equivalent experience will be considered Mechanical/electrical/electronic/hydraulic/pneumatic troubleshooting experience and skills Ability to coordinate and execute a multitude of projects with minimal supervision within the allotted time and budget Excellent communication, organizational, analytical, problem-solving and time-management skills Significant experience in maintaining goals related to safety, environmental compliance, quality, cost management, and budgeting Five + years supervisory experience in heavy industrial environment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Specific knowledge/experience in a steelmaking facility
  • Supervisory experience in a union environment
